Mini-Implants
One of the newest innovations is the orthodontic mini-implant. Dr. Lawrence has extensive experience using the orthodontic mini-implant and teaches the techniques to other orthodontists and the orthodontic residents at Case Western Reserve University.
Orthodontic mini-implants, also known as Temporary Anchorage Devices (or TADs) are distinct from the implants used to replace teeth or support dentures because they are removed when we are finished using them.
By being stable anchors for tooth movement, mini-implants have allowed us to perform orthodontic treatments that were once not biologically possible. In fact, in some types of malocclusion, mini-implants can be used to accomplish jaw balance changes that previously could only be done surgically.
